Summary

Public: Mug, soft paste porcelain, reeded loop handle, transfer-printed overglaze, in black, with a portrait and mythological scenes. Private: Mug, cylindrical, slightly narrowing from base and gently everted rim, reeded loop handle, transfer-printed overglaze, black. Three scenes on exterior. General Wolfe shows a bust portrait, facing left, of James Wolfe (1727-59). His hair is in the fashion of the time, hanging down back, and he wears formal dress. Right; Fame, depicting winged figure in flowing dress, above cloud, facing left, blowing trumpet and holding laurel branch to right. Left; Mars, depicting figure seated on cloud, facing right, dressed for battle, shield on right, spear held to left, plumed helmet, flowing dress beneath armour breastplate.
