Summary

Public: Mug made of soft paste porcelain, reeded loop handle, transfer-printed overglaze in black with rural scenes and enamelled overglaze in black inscription. Private: Mug, inverted bell-shape, everted rim, tapered foot, reeded loop handle. Transfer-printed overglaze, exterior, black. The Whitton Anglers shows lakeside scene, one lady, left, fishing, other being assisted with her rod by man, tree to right. Island to left, gazebo, containing bench, amongst trees. Foreground mass of foliage. La Diseuse D'Aventure shows three elegantly dressed ladies, with fortune-teller left, with child and dog. One of ladies is having her palm read, the others look away, one points towards her. Man hiding in bushes to right looks on, tall tree over-shadows scene. Rural landscape, foreground mass of foliage. Between printed scenes enamelled overglaze, black, inscription MARY GUNNIS, surrounded at four points by interlaced geometric ornament. pattern : The Whitton Anglers pattern : La Diseuse D'Aventure
