Summary

Public: Teabowl and saucer, soft paste porcelain, transfer-printed overglaze in black with scenes of lovers, statues and formal garden. Private: Teabowl : tapered footring, slightly everted rim, transfer-printed overglaze, black, two scenes on exterior. L'Amour shows man, left, and woman seated on garden bench. He leans to kiss her hand, she flutters fan. Centre behind, onlooking maid. Right; urn on plinth, distant balustrade and partial gateway, surmounted with statue. Left; Neptune and four horse fountain. Garden landscape. Garden Statuary shows urn on plinth, similar to L'Amour. Foreground, right, garden roller, and left, dog. Distant right, balustrade, gate and gateposts surmounted by statues. Garden landscape. Inside well transfer-printed overglaze black swimming swan. Enamelled overglaze black band inner rim. Saucer : tapered footring, shallow form, slightly everted rim, transfer-printed overglaze black with L'Amour. Scene more refined, larger, version of that on teabowl. Additional details; foreground right, garden roller, centre, dog. Distant left, formal row of trees, beyond Neptune and four horse fountain. Bottom right signed R. Hancock fecit. Enamelled overglaze black band inner rim.
