Summary

Public: Mug, soft paste porcelain, ribbed loop handle, spur at terminal, transfer-printed overglaze in black with parrot, butterflies and foliage. Private: Mug, cylindrical body rising from flared foot, ribbed loop handle, spur at terminal. Transfer-printed overglaze with botanical scenes, Parrot Pecking Fruit and four butterflies. Parrot print shows the bird, sitting on branch, curving down to left to reach berries. The signature 'Rt. Hancock fecit' appears hidden in lower leafy branch. Flanked by two pairs of butterflies, facing opposite directions, different species and sizes. Handle central rib enamelled overglaze black border of foliage and geometrical pattern.
