Summary

Public: Mug, soft paste porcelain, double ribbed handle, transfer-printed overglaze in black, elaborate Masonic scene. Private: Mug, bell shaped with everted rim, deep tapered footring, double ribbed loop handle. Transfer-printed overglaze black, three scenes on exterior. Central scene shows three well dressed men, each with different object as necktie, one wearing tricorn, to right large scrolled cartouche bearing mottoes AMOR HONOR ET JUSTITIA (top) and SIT LUX ET LUX FUIT (middle), G within flaming triangle (bottom). Cartouche contains three castle gatehouses separated by outstretched compass on dotted background. It stands on steps leading to chequered terrace, three columns. Beside it two plinths bearing to right beehive and left scroll with crossed emblem. Scrolls and emblems emerge from cartouche. Masonic emblems on ground including T square, trowel, set square, measuring devices. In sky to left sun, right moon and stars. Garden landscape with strewn carved stone. Scene flanked either side with obelisks surmounted by globe, left terrestial globe and distant classical ruin, right celestial globe and distant castle.
