Worcester Porcelain Factory 1751

Summary

Public: Tiny leaf-shaped sauce-boat, soft paste porcelain, painted in underglaze cobalt blue with Chinoiserie landscape. Private: Deep leaf-shaped bowl with flat base and tapering sides, tip of leaf curving slightly to the left. Sides ridged slightly at top to give impression of serrated leaf edge, squared loop handle at base of leaf, with ridge at top. Base sits on three moulded trefoil leaf feet. Well of bowl painted with Chinoiserie landscape of island with narrow house and tall tree, birds in sky. Thick diamond diaper border round inside of rim, and scrolling detail on back of handle.
