Summary

Public: Bowl, soft paste porcelain, gilded rim, transfer-printed overglaze in black with hunting scenes. Private: Bowl, deep circular body, slightly tapered high footring, transfer-printed overglaze, black. The Foxhunt depicts foxhunting scene around bowl exterior, riders and hounds in full cry across fields after fox running up distant track, people seated on bank to watch, distant buildings, wooded rural landscape. Inside bowl After the Hunt shows huntsman surrounded by hounds, blowing horn, holding fox aloft, flanked by two horses, one with rider on right, wooded rural landscape. Around inner walls of bowl three smaller scenes set in wooded rural landscape: Hound with Stag shows dog lying, licking dead stag behind, rear fence; Hound with Boar shows dog mauling severed boar's head, lying on quiver of arrows; Hound with Fox shows dog lying on ground, dead fox lies across dog's haunches, dead bird foreground, rear tree stump. Gilded overglaze band rim.
