Summary

Public: Plate made of soft paste porcelain, decorated in underglaze scale blue ground, with 'fancy birds' in iron red, green, puce, yellow and black enamels and gilt. Private: Circular plate with wide deep well, and fluted sides with scalloped rim. Upper surface covered in dark underglaze scale blue ground with rococo mirror-shaped and vase-shaped reserves in well, round central circular reserve edged in scalloped gilt line. Central panel filled with three exotic birds in red, puce, black and yellow. Reserves outlined in elaborate gilt scrolls, vase reserves filled with single butterflies, mirror reserves each filled with different scene of bird in green foliate landscape. Six small reserves round fluted, gilt-rimmed edge, each filled with butterfly or other insect. pattern : Fancy birds (see notes)
